What the heck is that?
If you’re thinking, “Konjac is kind of a funny word” – I’m with ya! My first thought was this is definitely not a word derived from the English language. Low & behold, Konjac Sponges are made from the Konjac Plant, a perennial found in Japan. A Konjac Sponge is an (incredibly light) exfoliating sponge that can be used with or without soap.
Why would you buy that?
For me personally, I have dry skin issues in the winter & regular exfoliation products are way too harsh & lead to my skin drying out even more. I needed something I could use daily to help get rid of that dead skin without leaving my face lookin’ like I got a mad sunburn. Regular light exfoliation is great for your face, regardless of skin type. Over-exfoliation, however, is not. The Konjac Sponge is such a light exfoliator, you can actually use it to remove eye makeup. This makes me feel comfortable using it daily.
From my favorite brand to buy from, Beauty by Earth: “The konjac is full of the nourishment your skin needs to look its best, including vitamin A, vitamin E, vitamin D, vitamin B1, vitamin B2, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, vitamin C, and folic acid. Gently washing with these naturally alkaline facial sponges helps to balance your skin’s acidity while enriching it with these vital nutrients.”
How exactly do you use it?
Pretty simple folks! Soak it, or run water over it until it becomes soft & grows in size. Massage it over your skin, with or without a small amount of product, in a circular motion. Squeeze excess water & allow it to air dry. You’ll need to be sure you’re putting it in a place it can completely dry or you’ll grow bacteria, which is not conducive to a clean & clear face.
Sponges last approximately 2-3 months, but you can extend their lives a few months by boiling it for a few minutes.
Pro tip: Don’t miss out on using this bad boy on your neck and chest! Your face isn’t the only part of your body that has dead skin/debris. Also, with any kind of exfoliation – moisturize.
Okay, how much is it?
Millions of dollars! Isn’t your face worth that?! I’m just kidding. It’s actually super affordable, ringing up at around $5.22/sponge on Amazon. Here is a link to the brand I mentioned above, that I generally use: Beauty By Earth on Amazon.
This is sooo good. I remember your telling me about the sponge a few months ago- now Im just going to have to buy it! Also, so true about the importance of exfoliating your neck and chest!
